Flint receives $100,000 Cities of Service grant

Posted: Updated:

(12/17/13) - Mayor Dayne Walling says a $100,000 will help with the next phase of the "Love Your City" initiative.

The money will go to volunteer groups in Flint who will clean up blighted properties, remove trash, plant trees and create gardens and other green spaces.

Walling says the grant is a result of the hard work done in Phase One of the program this year, and an acknowledgement that there's plenty more to do.

"What we know is there are volunteers all across the city that want to step up and help their neighborhoods and the city has a responsibility to meet them halfway," he said.

The Cities of Service grant comes from Bloomberg Philanthropies.
