Fenton Fire Hall brings wood fire grill, close to 100 jobs to Genesee County

(12/19/13) - After nearly a year of anticipation, the old Fenton Fire Hall has been reborn as the Fenton Fire Hall Kitchen and Tap Room.

The restaurant opened its doors to the public at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

"We left the paper on the window, and we didn't put a sign out," said owner Curt Catallo, "but obviously people figured out that we were open."

The whole venue is a tribute to its firefighting roots, from the wood fire grill to the pictures of every current Fenton firefighter that help decorate various parts of the building.

"A building like this, you don't want to do anything to it," said owner Erich Lines. "You want it to be what it is. This building has so much character we just wanted to make sure we didn't mess it up.

Owners say they hired 93 people, with 85 percent of them coming from Fenton and the surrounding area.

The menu is built around the wood grill, and the drinks center around local beers. The basement bar features 48 beers on tap.

The Fenton Fire Hall will keep opening for dinner until it expands its hours to include lunch, starting Dec. 30.
