Power restoration times: Genesee County among worst hit

MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) -

(12/22/13) - Consumers Energy reported Sunday that Genesee County was the hardest hit area in Michigan after more than 250,000 customers lost power due to an ice storm Saturday night.

Shiawassee and Saginaw counties are also among the worst hit this weekend. Shiawassee County declared a state of emergency Saturday around 6 a.m. after power lines were reported down on many major roads. Consumers reported 17,331 customers without power in the area.

Saginaw County reported 2,575 customers without power.

Consumers brought in an additional 300 utility workers from Indiana, Kentucky and other states to help the more than 1,500 Consumers Energy employees and contractors restore power across the state.

Restoration times are reported as late as Saturday, leaving many people in the dark on Christmas. Saginaw County is expected to be restored by Christmas Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 24. Shiawassee County may not see power until Friday. Consumers estimates portions of Genesee County will be without power until Saturday.

Gratiot - 4,985 - Wednesday

Ingham - 15,394 - Some portions may not be restored until Saturday

Ionia - 4,454 - Wednesday

Jackson - 1,894 - No Time Listed

Kalamazoo - 6,497 - Thursday

Kent - 24,680 - Northern Kent: Tuesday Western Kent: Thursday

Livingston - 4,227 -Some portions may not be restored until Saturday

Montecalm - 3,095 - Wednesday

Muskegon - 1,568 - no time listed

Oakland - 1,966 - Some portions may not be restored until Saturday

Ottawa - 1,519 - Some portions may not be restored until Saturday

Saginaw - 2,575 - Tuesday

Shiawassee - 17,331 - Friday
