Furnace repairman's random act of kindness warms family's homes, hearts

GRAND BLANC (WJRT) -

(12/24/13) - One Grand Blanc family was in the dark, Tuesday, but thanks to a random act of kindness, they won't be sleeping in the cold.

Like thousands of families across Mid-Michigan, this single-mom has been freezing in the dark for days.

She called a furnace repair man with Perfect Temp to hook up her furnace to a generator.

"He said I'll be out within an hour, which I was pretty shocked about because I figured he'd be really busy and also it's Christmas Eve," Jessica Wilson said.

He went to work, running one of his cords from her furnace to her generator.

But when it came time to pay, he refused to accept any money.

"I said well thank you so much and I handed him the check and he said 'No, I don't want any money,'" Wilson said.

"He said, 'Just Merry Christmas and I just hope your power comes back soon,' and he said 'If you do something nice for somebody that will be payment enough.'"

The kindness of a stranger brought her to tears.

"It just changed everything, I think it's way more powerful than he ever knew it was going to be and I'm definitely going to help someone," Wilson said.

They now have a warm house but even more than that, they're finally back in the Christmas spirit, even if they're spending the holiday in the dark.

"I was in the absolutely wrong mindset, I was just feeling sorry for myself thinking about all the things that were wrong and now I can't see anything that's wrong, I just see so many things that are right," Wilson said.
