Fenton residents frustrated on day 6 with no power

Posted: Updated:

(12/27/13) - It's been a long week for those thousands of families who keep waiting for the power to come back on.

Linda Kern is among the dozens of Fenton residents in dark after last weekend's ice storm. It's day six without power for her neighborhood, near North Long Lake Road and Torrey.

"I had to put my name on the waiting list at Home Depot, said it was in at 5:30 Monday morning. I had to unload it myself, put it together, go up and get gas, I am literally beat, just wore out," she said.

She lives by herself, but is not alone in her frustration.

"this is just miserable, miserable."

"It's terrible, no water. We just got heat on Tuesday, no toilet and it's crazy because we take so much for granted," said Mike McIntosh.

Every house in the neighborhood is without power, and generator noise has become the new norm.

"It's a wake up call, you realize what other people go through when there are storms," said Julie Hickmott.

Working through this outage has been quite the process.

"I have my generator and I've been hauling in snow from outside to boil so that I can at least flush the toilet," Kern said.

As utility crews worked on the power lines near their neighborhood, relief seemed closer than ever.

The latest estimate for restoration is Saturday night - day 7.

"Energy people are away from their families. Coming in from all over. We've been with our families, so what can you do," Kern said.
