FLINT (WJRT) -

(01/01/14) - A Chesaning couple barely made it past the ball drop when welcoming their first child into the world Wednesday morning - New Year's Day.

Their baby boy was the first born, for 2014, at Flint's Hurley Medical Center.

He may even be the first born in all of Mid-Michigan.

Elias Manuel Sincissen came into the world at 12:06 a.m. He weighs just over 4lbs and is about 17 and a half inches long.

Elias is in Hurley's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, or NICU, right now and will be for at least another two weeks, according to his mother Adlin Rivera-Sincissen.

She had a high risk pregnancy and has been at Hurley since before Halloween.

Adlin said she was induced a day ago and doctors decided on a Caesarean section because they didn't want to risk any other complications.

She delivered early at 32 weeks.

She and her husband Joseph were hoping for a New Year's Day baby, but certainly didn't expect for it to play out this way.

"After being here nine weeks, it's been an awesome journey," Adlin said. "We went from complication to complication to have a beautiful, healthy boy. He didn't even have to go on a ventilator right away. It's amazing. It's been great."

Adlin praised the care she received at Hurley and said there's no place else she would have wanted to be for what she had to endure during her pregnancy.

Hurley is in the process of putting together a gift basket for the family. It will be delivered Thursday.
