Deliverable heating fuel assistance provided for low income families

Posted: Updated:

(01/07/14) - The Genesee County Community Action Resource Department is helping low income families deal with the cold by providing deliverable heating fuel assistance.

Deliverable fuel includes propane, coal, fuel oil, wood kerosene and heating fuel pellets. Basically, anything that has to be delivered to your home - different from Consumers Energy Natural Gas supply.

In order to receive assistance, families must prove they're in danger of using their only safe and adequate source of heat. A family's income must also be at or below the federal poverty guideline.

"It's very, very cold out right now and this is your primary heating source in your home for these individuals and so when your supply runs out, you have no heat in these temps, that could be fatal," said Matthew Purcell, of GCCARD.

For more information, call 810-232-2185 or 810-768-4675.

Help will be provided until the county meets its quota.
