FLINT (WJRT) -

(01/08/14) - The impact of Snowstorm 2014 is still being felt in Mid-Michigan.

On Monday, Flint officials estimated they would have all of the city streets cleared by Wednesday night. On Wednesday morning, they came out with a disappointing announcement.

The city was a little optimistic when it made the prediction Monday. Workers are nowhere close to being done.

All around the city, cars are getting stuck on their own streets. Also, don't forget to move your car from the curb. This is slowing down the clean up effort and could result in your car being towed at your expense.

Flint officials say only 30 percent of the city has been plowed and it may be Saturday before every street has seen a plow.

City Hall says crews have maintained a 24-hour schedule and used front end loaders and back-hoes in the effort to make the streets passable.

Sand is being sprinkled on some of the more dangerous intersections to provide traction.

A news release from the city says the plowing schedule for much of the residential streets will be the same as the garbage collection routes. Areas with a garbage day earlier in the week can expect to be plowed before many of the other residential area.

The Flint Water Service Center is using its plow-equipped pickup in the clean up efforts.

A few years ago, the city had more plows available when it operated its own fleet of garbage trucks. Those truck were equipped to handle blades and could be pressed into service. The fleet was sold when the city contracted out its garbage service.

Because the snow storm hit such a wide area, neighboring communities are unable to lend any snowplow equipment or crews.
