Saginaw 12 theater closes its doors

Posted: Updated:

(01/12/14) - After almost 40 years in business, the Saginaw 12 movie theater closed its doors for the final time, Sunday.

The theater opened in 1974 as a four-screen cinema called The Quad. Visitors on the final day were treated to a video montage about the theater's history, playing in the lobby. Some movie-goers also got to take home small pieces of the screen, stamped with the opening and closing dates of the theater.

Goodrich Quality Theaters, which ran the Saginaw 12, is opening a brand new state-of-the-art cinema next door called the Quality 10 GDX. It's set to open to a select crowd on Thursday and the general public on Friday.
