SAGINAW (WJRT) -

(01/17/14) - Friday afternoon, 29 year-old DeMarcus Allen was formally charged with first degree murder and child abuse after the death of 14-month-old Ramon Vasquez.

Investigators say the little boy died after an incident last week. If convicted on the charges brought against him, Allen faces life in prison.

Standing in front of Saginaw County District Judge Terry Clark, Allen listened to the charges and the penalties he could face.

Details about how Ramon died were not revealed in court, but Judge Clark did mention the boy's injuries were intentional. It happened Jan. 8 at a home on Green street in Saginaw. Allen told the court it was his girlfriend's house, he had been staying with her at the time. Little Ramon died two days later on Jan. 10.

Allen was jailed on probation violation and drug possession charges while investigators gathered evidence in the boy's death. He's scheduled to be back in court on Jan. 29.
