Local grandmother pleas for violence to end

FLINT (WJRT) -

(01/17/14) - Carolyn Denise Carter carries pain no parent ever wants to bear.

"My heart has a hole in it," she said.

Friday night, her family and friends tried to ease her pain with hugs and tears, but every picture became a painful reminder.

"They are no more, they are no more, they are no more," she said.

Pictures and memories are all she has left of her grandson Dericko Carter. He was killed last Saturday, the first life lost to street violence this year.

Sadly, Carolyn's daughter and Dericko's mom, Jalila Carter Gooch, was killed in 2009.

Both were shot to death in Flint.

"I am not even through with the closure of my daughter, I have no idea who took her life away from me and I am facing the same thing with my grandson, her son," Carter said.

Shivering in chilly temperatures, people gathered for a candlelight vigil at Joy Tabernacle church in Flint.

They were there for Carolyn as she pleas for an end to the violence that took her loved ones too soon.

If know anything about the shooting death of Dericko Carter, call Flint Police.
