State suspends Standish funeral home's license

Posted: Updated:
STANDISH (WJRT) -

(01/19/14) - The Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Securities and Commercial Licensing Bureau has suspended the license and registration for an Arenac County funeral home.

They say R.O. Savage Funeral Chapel failed to put money for prepaid funerals into an escrow account.

It all adds up to $601,438.01 that is missing from that account, as of Nov. 22, 2013.

They also say 162 prepaid funeral contracts were sold while the funeral home was unregistered.

In addition, Richard Weishuhn, of Standish, was ordered to stop practicing mortuary science without a license.

People who may be impacted by this issue are asked to contact the Audit & Examination Division within LARA's Corporations, Securities & Commercial Licensing Bureau at 517-335-3056, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., email drostec@michigan.gov. The office will be closed Monday, Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Junior Day.

In addition, the Michigan Funeral Directors Association has a few funeral homes to assist families with funeral services. They are: Buresh Funeral Homes at 989-362-8191 in Tawas City with a chapel in Prescott; and the C.L. Forshee & Sons Funeral Homes at 989-867-4237 with locations in Au Gres and Twining.
