(01/20/14) - Martin Luther King Jr. inspired people with his actions and words.

That's why a local group is using MLK Day to help inspire others to help strengthen Mid-Michigan communities through mentoring.

In a room full of local leaders, a congressmen and law enforcement officials, there was one common denominator - mentorship.

Monday morning, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint held its eighth annual Mentoring Inspiration Breakfast.

Former Michigan State Basketball standout and NBA player, Greg Kelser, was the keynote speaker. Kelser and others there commemorated national mentoring month and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

In the few short months since Kyle McCree has been mentoring 8-year-old Monterro Wansley, he has made great strides.

"He just got promoted from the third to the fourth grade a couple months ago, so I think learning how to focus, learning how to prioritize and how to deal with challenges has been able to help him in the classroom," McCree said.
