Midland County school gets big energy savings refund check

Posted: Updated:

(01/20/14) - A Midland County school district is celebrating big energy savings.

Their reward for making cost-cutting changes is a check worth more than $126,000.

The money is part of an incentive rebate offered by Consumers Energy.

The oversized check was presented by utility officials Monday night to the Bullock Creek School District during their board meeting.

So - what will they do with the money?

"There is nothing specific I would say other than the fact it will go towards the kids, it will go in the classrooms. As you know, budgets are extremely tight these days, and so every dollar counts," said Charlie Schwedler, the superintendent Bullock Creek Schools.

To save money, the district did things like upgrades to the ceiling, insulation and lighting thanks to a recent bond passed by voters in the community.
