(01/21/14) - Doctors say a 20-year-old from Davison Township doesn't have much longer to live - but Chad Everett is battling his cystic fibrosis.
Chad is determined to reach his 21st birthday, which is Wednesday.
The community is rallying behind him, sending hundreds of birthday cards.
ABC12 News sat down with Chad's mom, Michelle, Tuesday afternoon. Doctors told his family Chad wouldn't live to see the New Year - but here he is, strong and determined.
Chad was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was only 2 months old. New medicine kept him out of the hospital for more than a decade.
Chad's health took a turn, and doctors said he wouldn't live to see January. Chad disagreed.
He's feeling good right now and he's determined to see his 21st birthday. Once the word got out, birthday cards started pouring in with the help of Willie's Wish Foundation for Cystic Fibrosis.
They also helped him and his family attend a Red Wings hockey game last weekend, so Chad could meet his hockey idols.
Michelle says they had 329 cards as of Tuesday morning, but she's sure there will be more when they check the mail Tuesday night.
