Tree trimming services try to cope with the cold weather

Posted: Updated:

(01/24/14) - Putting up with the snow and winds will be tough for anyone heading out on Friday, but for some people, they have to deal with spending the entire day in the elements.

In Flushing, ABC12 News caught up with some workers from a tree trimming company who are having to deal with the brutal weather.

They're doing maintenance trimming, which means they're making sure the trees don't grow underneath the power lines.

Even though they're all layered up, they're still having a tough time dealing with windy conditions and unbearable temperatures.

They say out of all of the years they've been in business, this winter has been keeping them the busiest. They've been working extra hours since Christmas.

Keeping warm for them means taking extra breaks a little more than normal.

"When you get too cold, we go in the truck and warm up a little bit. Layers, I got about six layers on right now. Just not easy. You get warm when you can get out here. It's been like this since that ice storm we had, it's been one storm after another, we've just been out here just working," said Jim Casper, with Davey Tree Trimming Service.

Those working outdoors are also having to compete with the blowing snow.
