Mt. Morris Township apartment floods, mother doesn't know where to turn

MT MORRIS TOWNSHIP (WJRT) -

(01/26/14) - A Mt. Morris Township woman, her children and grandchildren were  forced out into the cold to find another place to stay, after pipes burst in her apartment in Mount Morris Township.

"I came to open up my door and this is what I came home to," said Angela Cannon.

Water was gushing through her ceiling and walls. Cannon said she's been at Madison Park Estates for about eight months now with her two daughters, two grandsons and newborn baby.

"I came in to save valuable things like my TVs, but I lost a lot, furniture, pictures," she said.

While we were there, the maintenance man turned off her water. He said the pipes might've been damaged in the cold weather or copper thieves might be to blame.

We tried to contact the owners but didn't have any luck. A neighbor said the same thing happened in her building a week or so ago.

"My basement was totally flooded, my washer and drier is damaged, my clothes in the basement are damaged," Danielle Botley said.

Both women said they're having a hard time getting answers or help on any of their issues.

"We've been without heat in this weather," Cannon said. "It's been two weeks now."

Botley is worried about her 2-year-old boy and keeping him safe in this weather.

"I'm a mom, I have to make him survive," Botley said.

"I haven't got in touch with anyone, I called, no answer," Cannon said. "I just don't know what to do."

We spoke to the property management. They say copper thieves are ruining the building, which is causing problems with the pipes and furnaces.

Cannon has decided she's leaving the apartment complex. She said she needs to find a safer place for her children.
