MI Teen fights for people with disabilities

Posted: Updated:

(01/30/14) - Michigan native Jeff Crouch is a sophomore at the online school Great Lakes Cyber Academy. He spent his week on Capitol Hill pushing pieces of legislation that will help people with disabilities.

Jeff is visually impaired. He travels with his dog Benson. He joined other members of the National Federation of the Blind, on Capitol Hill, trying to get equal treatment for people with disabilities.

"Not only do I get to learn about Congress as a whole," Jeff said, "I get to network with other visually impaired people who are going through some of the same problems that I may have."

Jeff met with many lawmakers this week, including Michigan Congressman Dan Kildee. Jeff is pushing for legislation that would improve the quality of life for anyone with a disability.

"It's really important to meet with them and have some dialogue back and forth," he said.

He told ABC12 this isn't his last visit to the nation's capital.

"This is my second time here and this is going to be one of many throughout my lifetime," he said.

Jeff plans to go to college in Texas, then go to law school.
