Man arrested in relation to Ferris State shooting

BIG RAPIDS (WJRT) -

(02/02/14) - Police say they have arrested a man they believe shot and injured a Ferris State University student early Saturday morning.

The shooting happened in an off-campus apartment around 4:15 a.m. Saturday. Police say the shooter walked into the Venlo Place apartment and shot a male student. The student was taken to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids. He is not believed to have sustained life-threatening injuries.

Ferris State University canceled several events on campus, including the basketball game against Saginaw Valley State University.

The suspected shooter is currently held in the Mecosta County Jail. Charges are expected to be filed against him in the next two days.

Police say they also have a woman in custody for questioning. The investigation is still on-going.
