FLINT (WJRT) -

(02/01/14) - The city of Flint is getting a helping hand from the Genesee County Road Commission.

For the first time, the road commission will make sure Dort Highway and Corunna Road are plowed and salted. The Michigan Department of Transportation offered to maintain those state highways in the city after the big snow storm in January.

MDOT contacted Genesee County on Friday.

"We were asked by the Michigan Department of Transportation if we could take over the snow removal responsibilities inside the city of Flint on the state trunk lines for the next four to five days. And we told them we would be able to do that," said  John Daly, of the Genesee County Road Commission.

MDOT will reimburse the Genesee County Road Commission for working on M-54 and M-21. The move will make it a little easier for Flint road crews to maintain other city streets.
