Jailed in Bay City, 4 men may face Saginaw charges

Posted: Updated:
BAY CITY (WJRT) -

(02/05/14) - Four Saginaw men are accused of terrorizing two Bay City neighborhoods, and investigators say they might have been doing the same thing in their hometown.

All four were arrested in Bay City last month after two incidents, just as Saginaw Police were closing in on the suspects as well.

Saginaw has reported more than a dozen home invasions, armed robberies and carjackings over the past few months. Police believe the men responsible are now in jail in Bay City.

Antonio Griffin, Sammie Wright, both 19 years old, 18-year-old Nashawn Lane, and 17-year-old Quay'von Brown, all of Saginaw, are charged with home invasion, armed robbery and carjacking. Brown also faces a sexual assault charge.

The woman who reported the assault was emotional when describing the attack during Tuesday's preliminary hearing. A resident of the Bay City home where the crimes happened testified four men came into the home after knocking on the door.

"They were kind of demanding drugs and money," the victim said.

The home invasion happened on Jan. 14. The four men are accused of carjacking a woman three days later. Police arrested them that night. At the same time, Saginaw Police had identified the four as suspects in a series of armed robberies and carjackings in this west side neighborhood.

"While we were executing that search warrant, they were being apprehended in Bay City at the time," said Sergeant Reggie Williams, of the Saginaw Police Department.

Williams says charges are being prepared for the Saginaw crimes.

"The Michigan State Police and Saginaw Police have been looking for these guys for a while," he said.

A man, who did not want to be identified, says this Saginaw neighborhood has had its share of crime in recent months.

"Police cars are always around here," he said.

He feels better that the people police believe are behind the violent crimes are now in jail.

"It makes me feel better driving in this direction for sure," he said.

The preliminary hearing in the Bay City case will be continued at a later date. For now, the suspects are being held in the Bay County jail.
