SAGINAW COUNTY (WJRT) -

(02/07/14) - A portion of a Mid-Michigan highway was blocked for a few hours by a train derailment.

The train was blocking M-83 in Gera just north of Frankenmuth. It happened about 6:30 a.m. Friday.

The cars on the train were empty and were to be filled with corn from the Star of the West grain elevator in Gera.

Police say the derailment was caused by snow and ice on the tracks.

The highway is now back open.
