Residents whose streets still haven't been plowed demand answers

FLINT (WJRT) -

(02/07/14) - It's been several weeks since our first snow storm of the season, and people in Flint are still complaining about streets not being plowed - making them impassable.

Now, they're demanding answers.

Valley Lane in Flint has been plowed, but other streets don't look like that street, and neighbors want to know why.

Neighbors who live on the north side of Flint say their streets haven't been plowed in weeks.

"My street is not plowed and if you get to the side, you're going to get stuck, but we're just waiting for them to plow our street out," said Bettie Green.

Some say they've been waiting too long. Cars have been getting stuck left and right and they're not sure why some streets have been plowed while their streets haven't.

"It's bad because you can't get through here, cars getting stuck every other day and then they do other streets like Parkway and all them streets and they do them and they don't never get to this street," said Antonio Reid.

Reid, who lives on Gracelawn near Martin Luther King Avenue, says every time it snows, his street is one of the last ones to get plowed.

People who live on the north side are hoping to get some kind of relief soon.

"Very frustrating when you're trying to get through and you can't," Green said.

As of 6:30 Friday morning, 50 percent of the streets in neighborhoods have been plowed in Flint. The city hopes to have the rest of the job done by Saturday.

So why is it so difficult for crews to get to a lot of the side streets?

"There are over 500 miles of streets in the city that require multiple passes and with the snow fall that we've had where it's hard to catch up, it just keeps compounding the problem. Our equipment is running 24 hours a day," said Jason Lorenz, public information officer for the city of Flint.

The city is asking for your patience while they try to work through this.
