(02/12/14) - The snow and ice storm in Atlanta is making itself felt in
Getting to Atlanta or destinations on the east coast could be difficult because of the winter storm, and people trying to return to Michigan may be delayed.
At Flint's Bishop Airport, a flight scheduled to leave at 5:34 p.m. Wednesday has been canceled because the flight from Atlanta to Flint never left ATL. A Southwest Airlines flight from Flint to Baltimore has been delayed.
No flights from MBS Airport have been disrupted.
A number of flights between Detroit Metro and Atlanta have been canceled.
In fact, more than two-thirds of all scheduled flights to and from the Atlanta airport Wednesday have been canceled.
The total of canceled flights at Hartsfield Jackson-Atlanta International Airport by Wednesday afternoon - more than 1,600 - led the nation's airports, according to the flight tracking service FlightAware.
Officials at Atlanta's airport, which is Delta Air Lines' main hub, have said they plan to keep it open, with some key employees spending the night in the terminal.
In Charlotte, North Carolina, more than half of all inbound and outbound flights for Wednesday, more than 800 flights, have been canceled, FlightAware reported. Charlotte is a major hub for U.S. Airways.
Check with your airline if you need to reschedule a flight.
"Every airline has their own rules as far as how they handle when weather interrupts operations. A lot of times they'll let you reschedule your trip with no fees, waive all fees. Otherwise sometimes you just end up behind the line of whoever else is going out, so if all the other flights are booked for the rest of the week and your flight is canceled, you end up last in line," said Pat Corfman, Bishop Airport Authority.
Corfman says flights to Atlanta or to the East Coast during the next few days could be disrupted
