MICHIGAN (WJRT) -

(02/13/14) - Consumers Energy picked an engineering and project management company to shut down three coal-fired plants in Michigan.

One of those plants is the Karn-Weadock Complex in Bay County's Hampton Township.

Units seven and eight there are scheduled to be shut down in April of 2016.

Consumers recently announced it was putting off plans to build a $750 million power plant in Genesee County's Thetford Township. Instead, it will buy an existing natural gas plant in Jackson to save money. It will have only about half the generating capacity of the three plants closing.
