Saginaw Schools superintendent to draft deficit elimination plan, board votes Monday

Posted: Updated:

(02/13/14) - The clock is ticking for Saginaw Public Schools.

Thursday night, they went over options to chip away at their $6.1 million deficit - which could mean closing Saginaw High School or reorganizing schools.

The meeting lasted for nearly five hours. No decisions were made, but they went over several proposals to eliminate their deficit.

The big, controversial option on the table is to close Saginaw High and merge students with Arthur Hill.

Thursday night, they looked at alternative options, such as putting seventh and eighth graders into the high schools, closing the administration building, closing the staff development building and eliminating administration positions.

The board hands over this huge decision to the superintendent.

He must look at all these options and come up with a deficit elimination plan to turn into the state.

Then, the board will vote on that plan this Monday at noon, one day before it is due.
