Home Depot plans to hire dozens in Mid-Michigan

OWOSSO (WJRT) -

(02/14/14) - In a month or two, some flowers will start growing and so will the number of jobs available at one Mid-Michigan chain store. For the past couple of weeks, Home Depot stores in Mid-Michigan have been taking applications for job opening in the spring.

While some of the positions may be temporary, others could lead to permanent, full time jobs.

"To find a job that you can support yourself or your kids on is not easy," said Earline Gage, of Byron.

There was a steady stream of applicants at the job fair desk in the Owosso Home Depot. People could fill out applications and learn about openings in different departments.

"Anywhere from cashiers, garden department, hardware," said Mark Feldmann, the Home Depot Owosso store manager.

While those seeking work can start the application process online, some appreciate the face-to-face contact.

"Without being able to go online in Byron, we don't have access to the Internet without going to the high school. Going online to fill out an application is quite difficult," Gage said.

The jobs are available in Owosso, the Flint-area, Saginaw and Lapeer.

"In our district alone, we probably are hiring about 200-250 associates, just to help us get through the spring," Feldmann said.

Candidates should hear back from Home Depot soon after the application has been submitted.

"They would go through a phone interview and then they would partner them up with the stores," Feldmann said.

"Not a lot of places are hiring. It's a good opportunity," said David Goward of Chesaning.

Home Depot stores will keep a job application desk open for this seasonal hiring effort.
