(02/17/14) - The General Motors Foundation is awarding $1 million in grants to three Detroit charities in honor of the automaker's former chief executive.
The money is a tribute to former GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson and his wife, Karin.
The money will go to a soup kitchen, Habitat for Humanity and a group that provides services to the homeless.
Akerson was chairman and CEO for more than three years before retiring from the company last month.
