Genesee County Board of Commissioners honors African American Living Legends

Posted: Updated:

(02/19/14) - Throughout Black History Month, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners has been doing something rather special.

The board has been honoring several of the county's African American Living Legends.

At Wednesday's meeting, tribute was paid to former Flint Northwestern High School principal Bessie Strahan, former Beecher High football and basketball coach Moses Lacy, along with the Creative Expressions dance studio and Flint radio station WFLT.

"They are living legends, and they're still making a difference today and they've impacted so many lives of so many people in this community. That's why we're taking the time with our board to say 'thank you,'" said Omar Sims, county commissioner.

Another salute to African American Living Legends is set for Feb. 26.
