MICHIGAN (WJRT) -

(02/19/14) - U.S. Congressman Dan Kildee is doing his part to keep communities safe and provide more opportunities for young people in Mid-Michigan and around the country.

Kildee introduced three new pieces of legislation on Wednesday at Pierce Elementary school in Flint.

The first bill will provide additional funding to help communities fight violent crime. The second bill will help improve and sustain after school programs. The final piece of legislation will provide additional money to generate summer jobs.

"This is a way to invest in the younger generation in positive way, make them safe, give them opportunities and hopefully downstream it will make a big difference in the lives and make it better for the whole community," he said.

Kildee will formally introduce these three bills on Feb. 25 in Congress.

His next hurdle is getting bi-partisan support.
