New FBI statistics show violent crime down 26 percent in Flint

FLINT (WJRT) -

(02/19/14) - Violent crime is down in Flint. New FBI statistics released Wednesday reveal an overall drop of 26 percent for the first 6 months of 2013.

Flint's Police Chief James Tolbert tells ABC12 he wants to keep the trend going.

"We are going to involve all types of technology - social media, the citizens and radio patrol. We are going to do so many things to blanket this city so that people understand they can not come in the city of Flint and commit crime," Tolbert said.

Flint's Emergency Manager, Darnell Earley, adds the cities partnership with the Michigan State Police, along with the recent reopening of the City Lockup, have helped a great deal. Earley also says the city will remain focused on using resources, new and old, to continue the trend of improving public safety and in turn, the community.
