Eighty-seven-year-old Dingell is the longest-serving congressman in U.S. history. He was first elected in 1955, filling the House seat vacated by his late father.
Dingell, who is a Democrat, has been a major advocate of the auto industry and played a significant role in the passage of the Affordable Care Act.
