(02/24/14) - A Mid-Michigan grocery is celebrating a milestone. Bueche's in
Flushing is now in it's one-hundredth year of business.
You'll find all the grocery store staples inside Bueche's in Flushing- but customers say there's something else here, something many stores don't have.
Brothers Chris and Denny Bueche are third generation owners. The store changed locations in 2005, but always remained rooted in tradition.
"We try to be old-fashioned and do things the same and try to be true to who we are and keep plugging along," Denny said.
That's how the Bueche's have kept their store open and successful while many other family-owned businesses have gone by the wayside. Now, the store is celebrating its centennial year.
"There's fewer of the independents around. Big Box stores do take a larger slice of the pie," Chris said.
Old photos of the early days still line the store aisles. Customers praise the family-friendly environment.
"I like the personal service here. I think everyone is so friendly and nice," said customer Theresa Pelikan.
The future of the store also looks bright, as the Bueche's head into their second century.
Bueche's also has a location in Ortonville. That one opened in 1992.
