Three charged in death of MSU student Dustyn Frolka

CLINTON COUNTY (WJRT) -

(02/24/14) - Three teenagers are now charged in the murder of Michigan State University student Dustyn Frolka.

Frolka, 19 and from Owosso, was found barely alive on I-69 in Clinton County's Bath Township Saturday, Feb. 15.

Police announced the arrests this weekend.

Eighteen-year-old Samantha Grigg, 18-year-old Tyrel Bredernitz and 16-year-old Brendan Heim, all with ties to Saline, near Ann Arbor, are each charged with felony murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Authorities allege brass knuckles were used in the crimes.

The trio was arraigned on the charges Monday afternoon. All three say they're unemployed and have ties to Saline High School. Bredernitz says he graduated, Grigg says she's a senior and Heim says he last completed the tenth grade, is enrolled in high school, but hasn't gone for awhile.

Bredernitz says he is currently on probation, but didn't say for what.

All three are being held, without bond, in the Clinton County Jail.

Bath Township Police haven't yet detailed what they believe happened the night Frolka was found on the freeway, but did say they executed search warrants in Saline this weekend and found illegal drugs and the vehicle believed to have been used in the crimes.

Frolka's sister, Pamela Hincka, says he leaves behind family and friends and a 10-month-old daughter.

Frolka was involved in the local music scene.

Hincka says it's at least comforting to know that there will be some justice in this situation.

"(Dustyn) maybe made some bad choices, but he was only 19. I think it speaks volumes that he was, throughout all of this at Michigan State, in good academic standing."
