Montrose Township man sentenced to life in prison for murder of infant son

MONTROSE TOWNSHIP (WJRT) -

(02/26/14) - A Montrose Township man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his 3-month-old son.

Jeramy Wagner, 24, pleaded guilty to second degree murder and first degree child abuse in the October 2012 murder of his son Andrew. He will be eligible for a parole hearing in 15 years.

Wagner was arrested after about a three hour standoff with police the day this went down.

Montrose Township Police said then, Wagner called 911 because the baby wasn't breathing, but later admitted hitting him because he was fussy and wouldn't take a bottle.

Police and prosecutors said an autopsy shows the infant had injuries to his head.

Another child in the home was removed by child protective services for about three months.

The baby's mother, in court Wednesday, tearfully told Genesee County Circuit Court Judge Richard Yuille her life has been ruined.

"It's been hard on my family," she says. "This never should have happened."

"I have remorse for what I did, but not because I'm going to prison for it, but because my son could have been anything and he could have done anything and he could have been anyone," Wagner said. "I single-handedly took that from him."
