(02/27/14) - Two fundraisers are underway in honor of Trooper Paul Butterfield, who was killed in the line of duty.
Trooper Butterfield was shot during a traffic stop last September. His killer, Eric Knysz, was convicted this week. Now, the Michigan State Police Department has started to sell decals and T-shirts to raise the funds to remember the trooper's legacy.
The T-shirt money will help grant a scholarship to a law enforcement student, in his name. The T-shirt fundraiser runs through the end of March.
The decal money will go toward a project to rename a portion of M-116 in Mason County after the trooper.
The Mason County Sheriff's Department is selling the decals to the public. You can buy them between the hours of 6-9 p.m. through the corrections sergeants at the jail. Call 231-843 3475 and dial the extension for the jail.
To order the T-shirts, you can contact Michigan State Police Trooper Assistance at 517-336 7782.
