Autopsy: Death of 6-year-old Saginaw boy is a homicide

Posted: Updated:

(03/04/14) - A Saginaw father accused in the abuse of his 6-year-old son now face new charges following the child's death.

Thirty-nine-year-old Aki Dillard originally faced assault with intent to murder, torture and child abuse charges. Tuesday, he was back in court, charged with an additional count of first degree premeditated murder.

The mother, 30-year-old Mio Campbell, does not face additional charges at this time. She was arraigned Monday for child abuse.

Investigators say the boy had burns from hot water and head injuries. They found him, unresponsive at a home in the 1800 block of Ames, Thursday afternoon.

The Saginaw County prosecutor says Dillard spent 20 years in prison for a second degree murder conviction in Illinois.

He says the 6 year old has three other siblings and they are now in the care of a state agency.
