BAY CITY (WJRT) -

(03/08/14) - Dozens of families in Bay City could remain without heat for the next few days due to a gas line rupture in the area. These families have already been without gas since Thursday.

It all started with a water main break on Jane Street near Dean. That water main break lead to the ruptured gas line.

Consumers Energy told ABC12 that they would get the gas flowing again, but the service lines would freeze up causing people to lose gas once again. So instead, they have another plan. They are going to replace the whole system.

"We made the decision today and brought in crew today to replace that system," Terry DeDoes, Public Information Director for Consumers Energy, told ABC12 Saturday. "We are going to replace that main and we are going to replace all the services as well."

DeDoes also told ABC12 that Consumers hopes to get the gas restored to all affected customers in three days. Until then, Consumers set up a hotline for affected customers who have questions. That number is 1-989-791-5775.
