Mt. Morris Township board approves funding for new K-9

Posted: Updated:

(03/10/14) - Mt. Morris Township Police will be adding to the department just months after a beloved member passed away.

The township board voted Monday night to support funding a replacement, which is about $11,000 and includes training.

Their K9, Cash, died in October.

Police Chief Scott McKenna said, then, their goal was to continue their K-9 program.

It is one of the longest running, along with the sheriff's department, in Genesee County.

Cash worked with Officer Jeff Iski.

ABC12 featured them after they beat out hundreds to be named the National Association of Police Canine Handlers K-9 team of the year for our region.

McKenna says the K-9 program has been very valuable for the township.

Training is set for May.
