SAGINAW (WJRT) -

(03/11/14) - The Michigan Department of Education has approved Saginaw Public Schools' deficit elimination plan.

That means the district will most likely close Heavenrich, Houghton and Ruben Daniels Schools, as well as the Staff Development Center.

Saginaw High and Arthur Hill High School will be eighth through twelfth grade schools.

The district will also reopen Arthur Eddy Academy, which closed last year.

Thirty-six teachers will be laid off next year and 14 will be let go the following year.
