(03/13/14) - The students of Kettering University's Motorsports Program, in Flint, have added another trophy to the trophy case.
The students traveled to Michigan Tech in Houghton this past weekend to compete in the Clean Snowmobile Challenge against approximately 25 other universities from the U.S. and Canada.
Teams were tasked with building or modifying a snowmobile to make it more environmentally friendly.
"The point of the clean snowmobile challenge are to have snowmobiles that are generally seen by the public as loud, noisy and dirty. We modified it for low emissions, both chemical and noise emissions, so it's quiet and gets excellent fuel economy also," said Matt Birt, team leader.
This is the first time since the competition began 15 years ago that Kettering has won first place.
