City of Flint says they did not shut off water at Glen Acre Estates

FLINT (WJRT) -

(03/14/14) - ABC12 finally has some answers about why some tenants at a Flint apartment complex are without water.

We first told you about the problems at Glen Acre estates, Thursday.

Residents thought a delinquent bill was to blame for their loss of service.

The Public Information Officer for the city of Flint, Jason Lorenz, tells us the water is off because of mechanical issues, but that issue of the past due bill is still being held over their heads.

Right now, the city is working to fix the problem, and get the water back on at Glen Acre estates.

Lorenz says the property owners were sent a shutoff notice and that they have not paid off their back bill. The property owners owe nearly $74,000.

So, while the tenants did not lose water because of that debt, they could lose it soon if that bill is not paid after service is restored.

In the meantime, they are spending another day without running water in the building. For the last two days, some have been melting snow from outside to get by.

They are getting some help local church that is passing out bottled water and hygiene products for tenants.
