Flint mother now facing charges in the deaths of both her twin toddlers

FLINT (WJRT) -

(03/14/14) - A Flint mother charged with murder in the November death of her 2 year old son is now facing another murder charge, for the death of that boy's twin sister two months prior.

A Flint Police press release indicates Ja'Mya Shelton's September death was initially ruled undetermined asphyxiation by the medical examiner. An ongoing investigation by detectives uncovered evidence of foul play, according to the release. Investigators still believe she died from asphyxiation.

A warrant was issued Friday charging Crystal Shelton-Randolph with first-degree felony murder and first-degree child abuse in Ja'Mya's death, Sept. 24, 2013. She was 22 months old. The press release shows she arrived at the hospital, by ambulance, with EMS personnel administering CPR, but later died in emergency.

Online court records show Shelton-Randolph has a court hearing scheduled Tuesday.

Shelton-Randolph already faces first-degree felony murder, first-degree child abuse and first-degree criminal sexual conduct charges in the Nov. 22, 2013 death of her son Jordan Shelton, Ja'Mya's twin brother.

Shelton-Randolph has been ordered to undergo forensic testing, to determine if she's competent to stand trial and can be held criminally responsible, in the case connected to Jordan's death. Online court records show a review hearing is scheduled for May.
