Delta College considers downtown Saginaw for satellite campus

SAGINAW (WJRT) -

(03/19/14) - Delta college wants to move its Saginaw County satellite campus.

Now, it appears they're considering downtown Saginaw.

During the Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday night, the administrative team, as well as consultants that were hired to work with the college, made the recommendation that the downtown Saginaw area would be the best place for their Saginaw facility.

Delta College's current satellite campus at the Ricker Center, in Buena Vista Township, is getting older.

The Board of Trustees will vote on a new location April 15. They include Buena Vista Township, downtown Saginaw, Michigan Avenue or Old Town Saginaw.

Jean Goodnow, Delta College president, says they have been working with a consulting firm since last year. The firm helped them identify the four zones.

There are a number of factors that they consider when trying to find a zone. One thing they focus on is the demographics that their students are coming from.

"We had tours of the area, we worked with the economic development groups in town to talk with us about the various assets that are available, like the cultural and library resources, and then also looking at the business partnerships that we might collaborate with or strengthen our partnerships with in terms of delivering our educations services," Goodnow said.
