(03/27/14) - Over the years, the Pure Michigan campaign has drawn a lot of attention to tourist locations around the state.
Now a new website hopes to do the same thing for the Great Lakes Bay Region.
Gogreat.com was launched last Thursday.
One local businessman says it's already had a huge impact on his business.
Mike Bacigalupo is a manager at The Temple Theatre in downtown Saginaw and the State Theatre in Bay City.
Both of his businesses are promoted on Gogreat.com. When people are looking for activities going on at the theater, they can learn about them there.
That has helped his sales increase in the past week.
"We're seeing a lot of action from the audiences that show up that are out of the Great Lakes Bay Region and even within the Great Lakes Bay Region. We're getting wider audiences, so we're liking what we see," he said.
Not only can tourists learn about special events on this website, but there's also information about popular hotels in the area.
The goal is to get out-of-towners to stay at one of them.
What we're trying to do is get people to come here and see what we have to offer and spend the night.
Annette Rummel is the CEO of the Great Lakes Bay Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau.
She says the site is also helpful for people who live in the area. They can learn about some of the major attractions.
"A very important part of our marketing effort was the redesign of our website to make it responsive, so that means that our website also was our mobile site and there are very few Convention and Visitors Bureau's in the world today that already have a responsive design website and mobile app capabilities," she said.
"Technology is great. The website is great, and drawing more people is the key to keeping downtown Saginaw, downtown Bay City, downtown Midland, everywhere around here busy," Bacigalupo said.
