At least one plea possible in Dustyn Frolka murder case

Posted: Updated:

(04/01/14) - At least one of the three teenagers, charged in the murder of Michigan State University student Dustyn Frolka, should be pleading in the case later this month.

Samantha Grigg's attorney, Ron Zawacki, said they're still negotiating with prosecutors. Grigg waived her right to have a preliminary hearing Tuesday.

So did Tyrel Bredernitz.

Both are 18.

The Lansing State Journal reports Clinton County Prosecutor Chuck Sherman said, in court Tuesday, plea negotiations are ongoing with him and that Sherman is prepared to offer a plea deal that would "take life in prison without parole out of the picture."

The third suspect, Brendan Heim, is 16, but charged as an adult. Grigg's attorney says Heim is still in the process of being tested for competency.

All three teens are from the Saline area near Ann Arbor. Each face charges of felony murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Nineteen-year-old Frolka, from Owosso, was found barely alive on I-69 in Clinton County's Bath Township the night of Saturday, Feb. 15.
Authorities allege he was beat with brass knuckles during a robbery, thrown out of a car and that illegal drugs were also involved.

ABC12 was unable to reach the Clinton County Prosecutor's Office for comment.
