(04/04/14) - We're getting fit and we want you to join us!
The "Mayor's Wellness Challenge" is just getting underway - and we're in it to win it.
All month long, ABC12's Rebecca Trylch will be going head-to-head with Flint Mayor Dayne Walling.
It's not too late for you to play along.
What's more intimidating than weighing in - in front of everyone at Flint City Hall? It's a challenge Mayor Dayne Walling took on this week, and Rebecca decided to join him on a giant scale at the University of Michigan-Flint Rec Center.
They're teaming up to duke it out in the Commit to Fit "Mayor's Wellness Challenge". They both have a goal of losing one pound per week through April.
"On an average over the week, I do want to see if I can get 30 minutes of physical activity a day," Walling said.
Mayor Walling hopes you'll join him on this journey, too. He wants to sign up 1,000 people to make a commitment to be healthier.
Signing up online is easy and takes less than 5 minutes. After the initial set up, there are some great tools there. You can track your food and all log your activity.
"One of the things I'm going to do to keep the momentum going is I'm doing the Crim Training Program," Walling said.
While they have goals, they know it won't be easy.
"I need to tighten it down on the snacks," Walling said.
From eating better, to exercising more - and inspiring others - they'll have a busy month ahead. They'll get there one step at a time, made easier by a friendly wager - loser buys the dinner for the winner.
There's still time to sign up, HERE.
If you'd like to learn more about eating healthy, join the mayor and Rebecca for a cooking demonstration Saturday at the Flint Farmers' Market. It starts at noon.
Each week we will be offering some healthy options for you on our Facebook page, like Rebecca's Breakfast Smoothie. Find the recipe, HERE.
