(04/04/14) - After nearly three decades, a Mid-Michigan auto dealership is changing hands.
Jim Waldron Buick-GMC has a new owner, and he's bringing some changes with him.
In December 1986, Jim Waldron bought Belford Motor Sales in Davison Township. Now, he has sold it to a car dealer from the Grand Rapids area.
The lettering on the side of the building is being removed now that Waldron has sold the dealership to Todd Wenzel.
Waldron sold thousands of Pontiacs, Buicks and GMCs during his 27-year run on State Road. His son will stay on as general manager under the new dealership name.
"He's going to retire, take some time off now, enjoy his grandchildren," said Jim Waldron Jr.
Wenzel has two GM dealerships on the west side of the state. He wants to make some improvements at the Davison Township site.
"The renovating of the building will start shortly. That will be a significant change," Waldron Jr. said.
GM wants its Buick-GMC dealerships to have a more uniform look, so modifications will comply to those standards - and, the payroll could be growing.
"As a matter of fact, we're hiring right now for sales people, porters and detailers. As we continue to grow, there are some other positions we're going to require," Waldron Jr. said.
Wenzel's main office will stay in the Grand Rapids area, but he will spend time at the Davison Township store.
"He is very excited to be a part of the community, and see what this dealership can bring to his organization," Waldron Jr. said.
Waldron, at one time, sold Pontiacs, and some of those are being recalled for the ignition switch problem. Owners can contact the new dealership and make an appointment to get their car repaired.
