(04/09/14) - The City of Flint is preparing for some spring cleaning.
In honor of Global Day of Service, work will start this Saturday.
There are bags of trash dumped in empty lots, vacant properties with yards out of control and fire with overgrown dead grass surrounding them.
"Just needs a lot of attention. With all the budget cuts, cutting grass, removing debris, has become more difficult," said Bob Nelson, of the Boys and Girls Club of Flint.
Several organizations have put together a plan to clean up areas like this, but they need a little help to get the job done.
"If the community can help, it makes the place overall better," Nelson said.
They're calling on volunteers to put in work and help beautify their community. They're focusing on the north side of town near Pasedena, Hamilton, DuPont, and Saginaw.
"This is good for the community," Nelson said. "It shows that people are still invested in Flint."
Volunteers will be at Salem Housing on M.L.K Avenue, Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
