Body found in abandoned Flint home

Posted: Updated:

(04/09/14) - Investigators are trying to find out what happened to the person found dead in an abandoned house, in Flint.

Police say a worker found the body in the home on Eastmont Drive, Wednesday afternoon.

Police say the house and the two next to it are going to be demolished soon.

They've been abandoned for years, and neighbors put up handmade barricades to try to keep trespassers away.

They say there's been trouble there in the past.

Police say The Genesee County Land Bank plans to demolish the three houses. A crew was there to inspect the houses and clean up any absteos - when the stumbled on the woman's body.

They say she's likely been here for a while. They are working to identify her.

We talked to a woman who lives next door. Levy Gordon says they've seen people coming in and out of these houses. It worries her. She says there's been a few problems with the house next to the one police are investigating.

"Back here a couple of years ago, the kids were playing and they smelled a foul smell and they said they thought it was a dead body in there, but come to find out, it was dead dogs in there. Now I pull up today to learn there's a dead body in the house? They need to do something about this. It makes no sense. It makes no sense at all,"

An officer did find the woman's purse, so they might know who she is, but they won't know for sure until they do an autopsy.
